Matthew's Life, Summarized

(Last updated July 2007)

This is a bit dry, but should help people figure out which Matthew Ford I am or get just the facts on what I have been up to...

I was born in 1968 in Sacramento, California, USA.

My mother is Jody Ford and my father is Dan Ford. They live in Sacramento, California. My brothers are Dan Ford, living in Orange County, California, and Chris, living in San Francisco.

I went to school in Carmichael, California, first at Del Dayo primary, then Arden Junior High, then Jesuit High, graduating in the class of 1986.

I went to college at Harvey Mudd for a year and then transferred to its sister college, Pomona College, both in Claremont, California. I was a theatre major, graduating with a BA in 1990. During college I was in plays and wrote and produced the simultaneous action play "Dreamwreck". One summer I worked at Music Circus in Sacramento as a stage hand and actor.

I moved to and lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in 1990 and stayed there until 1991. I had also been there in the summer of 1989. I worked at the Southern Repertory Theatre as a technical director and actor; at Contemporary Arts Center as an attendant; at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego, Louisiana as a teacher, and at a dinner theatre I can't remember the name of, operating lights, sound, and soup. I also made and sold the game "Cartoon War" on the streets.

In 1991 I went back to Pomona for extra classes so I could go to Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California, in 1992 for a Masters in secondary education. While at Stanford I taught 9th grade English at Mills High School in Millbrae, California, for the 1992-1993 school year.

In 1992 I married Kat in Sacramento, California and we lived in San Jose, California.

From 1993 to 1995 I worked at Atari Games in Milpitas, California as a game designer and producer.

In 1995 Dylan was born in San Jose, California.

From 1995 to 1998 I worked at Accolade in San Jose as a game designer, producer, and team leader.

From 1998 to 2004 I worked at Microsoft Games Studios in Redmond, Washington, USA as a as game designer, producer/program manager, team leader, and consultant. Kat and Dylan and I lived in Kirkland, Washington.

In 2003 we temporarily lived in Sydney, Australia as I worked at Micro Forte as a lead game designer.

In 2004 we moved to Brisbane, Australia, and became permanent residents in 2005.

From 2004 to 2006 I worked at Auran Games in New Farm, Queensland, Australia as a producer, team leader, lead game designer, and division director.

In 2006 I started working at home for the companies I formed. I design and program games. I also teach students pursing university game degrees.
